Green Valley, Henderson Service Area

Window Coverings in Green Valley, Henderson NV

Green Valley was Southern Nevada's first master-planned community. Its oldest neighborhoods date to 1978, and building continued through Green Valley Ranch in the 1990s and 2000s. That spread of ages means very different windows from one street to the next. Call (702) 237-4401 for a free in-home measure anywhere in Green Valley.

What are the best window coverings for Green Valley homes?

In older Green Valley homes, the usual upgrade is replacing dated vertical blinds and aging shades with shutters, faux wood blinds, or cellular shades. These homes may also have original windows, so insulating products are worth a look. In Green Valley Ranch and the newer sections, the focus is usually glare and heat on west glass, where solar shades or exterior solar screens help most. A free in-home measure covers each window. About Green Valley

Green Valley is a master-planned community in Henderson, in the southeast part of the Las Vegas Valley. American Nevada Corporation began planning it in 1973 and held the grand opening on October 24, 1978. That makes it Southern Nevada's first master-planned community, ahead of Summerlin. The master community covers roughly 8,400 acres and includes Green Valley South, which began around 1985, and Green Valley Ranch, which began in 1994. American Nevada says Green Valley Ranch was completed in 2002. Postal codes include 89074, 89014, and 89012, and Green Valley Ranch extends into eastern 89052.

Shopping and dining center on The District at Green Valley Ranch and the Galleria area. The master plan includes Green Valley North, Green Valley South, Green Valley Ranch, and dozens of smaller sections such as the Village of Fox Ridge, the Village of Silver Springs, and the Legacy Village.

Three Eras of Green Valley Homes

Original Green Valley (from 1978)

The oldest single-family homes, townhomes, and condos. Some may still have original windows and early-era coverings such as vertical blinds.

Green Valley South (from about 1985)

Built out from the mid-1980s, these homes are now decades old, so original coverings and hardware are often ready for replacement.

Green Valley Ranch (1994 to 2002)

Newer construction with bigger window walls, sliders, and great rooms, close to The District and the Liberty Pointe amenities.

Older Green Valley Homes: Upgrades That Matter

In the oldest sections, a few projects come up again and again:

  • Replacing vertical blinds. Verticals on sliders and wide windows rattle, lose vanes, and look dated. Panel-track or roller shades and shutters give a cleaner update.
  • Adding insulation at the glass. If your home still has older windows, cellular shades trap air in their honeycomb cells. The Department of Energy's Energy Saver guide recommends insulating cellular shades and points to AERC ratings to compare window attachments.
  • Odd sizes and shapes. Older homes often have arches, half-rounds, and nonstandard openings. Custom-measured products fit better than off-the-shelf sizes. See our guide to coverings for oddly shaped windows.

Green Valley Ranch and the Newer Sections

In the newer parts of Green Valley, the windows are bigger and the problems are usually glare and afternoon heat rather than old hardware. Common choices:

  • Solar shades on great-room glass, which keep the view while cutting glare on screens and floors.
  • Motorized shades for tall or grouped windows, set on schedules or controlled from a phone.
  • Faux wood blinds and shutters for bedrooms, bathrooms, and street-facing rooms.

Heat and Glare in Henderson

Henderson shares the Las Vegas Valley's desert climate of long, hot summers and strong sun most of the year. The National Weather Service Las Vegas office issues the heat warnings that cover the area. West- and south-facing windows are where coverings make the biggest difference. Exterior solar screens stop heat before it reaches the glass, and interior products handle glare and privacy. Our Henderson heat and glare study covers the details.

Associations and Exterior Screens

Many Green Valley neighborhoods have homeowner associations, and some sections have their own rules as well. If you are planning exterior solar screens, check the current architectural guidelines and approved colors first. We can provide specification sheets and samples for your submittal. Interior coverings are rarely restricted.
